the description really is a lot of food for thought. he barely thinks of living entities as possessing any sort of will at times. or rather, he tries to push down that thought (especially when most just turn to corpses and ash), and so to extend this idea to an inanimate object strikes him as a difficult concept to blend with the thoughts he's always had. if there is anything that counteracts against this, it's the fact that he does believes in siffrin.
